3 perps arrested in connection with jewelery heist
A 33-year-old Chatham woman was arrested during a "high-risk" takedown where more than $70,000 of gold and diamond rings.
Chatham-Kent police and the OPP's crime unit were trying to stop a vehicle Thursday evening on Longwoods Rd.
On Feb. 8 two men entered the Hyde Park Rd. store, smashed display cases, and made off with thousands of dollars in merchandise.
Three people were arrested.
A Chatham woman has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.
60k raised for abused women
About 500 people turned out to a fundraising breakfast to raise money for the London Abused Women's Centre Friday morning.
The record turnout for the 11th annual International Women's Day breakfast resulted in a record $60,000 being raised for the centre, said Megan Walker, executive director of LAWC.
"It's really overwhelming, this community continues to overwhelm us with their generosity and it's really heartwarming," said Walker.

One in custody after stand-off
A man is in custody after a police chase and stand-off with Lambton OPP.
Police said a Wallaceburg man called them at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday and said he was wanted by police and had a gun in the area of Aberfeldy Line and Plowing Match Rd.
Members of the OPP's emergency response team, tactics and rescue unit and a canine unit went to the scene and after four hours of negotiations with the driver - described as "distraught" - managed to take him into custody without injury.

Man swallowed 34 cocaine capsules
TORONTO — Police have laid drug charges after doctors in Toronto recently removed 34 cocaine capsules from a man's stomach and intestinal tract.
The man went to hospital and told staff there he had swallowed cocaine in Jamaica in January.
Police say they seized 11 capsules of cocaine at the hospital, and that another 34 capsules had to be surgically removed from the man's stomach and intestinal tract.
Marlon Rhooms, 31, of Toronto faces several drugs-related charges.

Senior Citizen swindled
A man accused of defrauding a senior citizen of about $30,000 has been arrested.
Thursday, London police issued a warrant for a 28-year-old man after the unidentified senior was defrauded.
Police said the 74-year-old London woman was told by someone she knew the money was needed to pay for funeral services.
Seth May, 28, of no fixed address, was arrested shortly after 5 p.m.
Thursday and is in custody.
He was to appear in court Friday charged with false pretences over $5,000.

A heroin trafficking investigation in London led to a police pursuit and a spectacular roll-over on a Hwy. 401 exit ramp east of London.
London police and the RCMP, partners in the investigation, were doing surveillance on a man in vehicle wanted for importation of heroin.
They followed a sleek, four-door black Honda sedan onto Hwy. 401 eastbound, trying to stop the vehicle. The Honda didn’t stop and police gave chase.
At about 2:30 p.m., as it tried to exit at Elgin Rd., formerly Hwy. 73, the Honda rolled.
Sunday Okoye, 36, of Etobicoke, is charged with unlawfully importing heroin, possession for the purpose of trafficking, failing to stop for police and dangerous driving.

A freezing rain warning has been issued as cars and trucks begin to slide off the roads west of London.
Police, firefighters and paramedics are struggling to keep up with a flurry of roads sliding off roads and highways today as rain begins to fall with temperatures still hovering below freezing.
Environment Canada issued the freezing rain warning for London and area at about 8 a.m. Friday and said it's likely to continue until temperatures climb above freezing, probably around noon.
The high today is expected to reach 6 Celsius and continue climbing through the night to 9C Saturday.
