Child porn charges laid
A London man faces seven charges after an Internet child pornography investigation.
Police didn’t release the man’s name, but said they arrested a 21 year old after searching a home on Wolfe St. in London.
The man is charged with one count of accessing child porn and three counts each of making available and possessing child pornography.
The investigation continues.

Weapons stolen from Strathroy home
A dozen guns stolen from a Strathroy home have been recovered, with six people, police say.
Strathroy-Caradoc police say the weapons were stolen from a home on Adelaide Road in Strathroy while the homeowners were absent over two nights last week.
Charged — though the specific charges were not identified by police — are: Justin Console, 18, of Strathroy-Caradoc; Jacob Devuono, 20, of London; Nicholas Teves, 20, of London; Trevor Wood, 20, of London and Andrew Tapping, 21, of London
Stiff found under Windsor veranda
WINDSOR, Ont. -- Police have executed a search warrant at the Lincoln Road home where they discovered a dead body stuffed under the back porch.
Investigators have said they suspect foul play in the woman’s death. Officers found the body of 46-year-old Patricia Beaulieu, of Windsor, hidden under an enclosed rear porch in the 1400 block of Lincoln Road Sunday night.
William D. Connelly, 50, also of Windsor, is charged with improperly interfering with human remains.

Husband murdered wife over $700 debt
The husband of a Nova Scotia school teacher who was found dead in the trunk of her car in 2005 has admitted to strangling her during an argument over a $700 gambling debt. Jason Wayne MacRae, 37, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder Wednesday in the Nova Scotia Supreme Court in Halifax.
MacRae was originally charged with first-degree murder but agreed to plead to the lesser charge and proceed to sentencing, court heard.

Mom sent child porn to daughter's dad
BELLEVILLE, Ont. - An eastern Ontario woman is facing a two-year sentence for sending pornographic images of her daughter to the toddler's father.
During a brief court appearance Tuesday, the sobbing woman — who cannot be named to protect the identity of the infant — pleaded guilty to sexual interference and producing child pornography. Her prison sentence will also be followed by a probationary period.
Just last month, the child's 24-year-old father was sentenced to six years in prison for the possession of child pornography.
During the reading of an agreed statement of facts, the court heard that the investigation was launched after the child's father, a local pizza shop employee, lost his cellphone which contained sexually explicit pictures of his daughter sent to him by his 29-year-old girlfriend, the mother of the child.
When the phone was found, it was turned over to police.
During the investigation launched last August, police found four pornographic photos of the child, now 16-months-old.
One of the photos sent by the mother was being used as the screen saver on the 24-year-old man's phone when it was found, Burgess said.
He said since the woman's arrest and charge in October investigators have recovered additional photos of a similar nature.
Police in Belleville, Ont., went on to seize an extensive collection of 38,000 photographs and 7,400 movies from the home computer of the father during the operation.
Some of the images found were those of the child, who was taken into the care of the CAS.

Dugard's kidnappers confess
LOS ANGELES - The California couple charged with abducting 11-year-old Jaycee Lee Dugard in 1991 and holding her captive for 18 years, have confessed to police, a defense lawyer said.
Attorney Stephen Tapson said Phillip and Nancy Garrido told police detectives “everything they wanted to know” in hopes of securing a lighter sentence for Nancy Garrido, 55, whom he said was not involved in any of her husband’s sexual abuse of Dugard.

Cheating scandel probed
The London District Catholic school board is continuing to probe allegations of staff cheating at a Tillsonburg school.
A probe into the way staff administered the Grade 6 EQAO (Education Quality Assurance Office) 2009-2010 tests at Monsignor J.H. O'Neil Catholic school, is still "ongoing," a board spokesperson said this week.
The spokesperson, John Boles, said school board director Wilma de Rond declined to comment any further on the situation.

LONDON—Local government officials have confiscated ice cream made with human breast milk from a London shop amid concerns the dessert is unsafe.
A spokeswoman from Westminster City Council said Monday it was responding to two complaints from the public over whether a shop should be selling edibles made from other people’s bodily fluids and awaiting guidance from Britain’s Food Standards Agency.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity in keeping with council policy.
The official said the ice cream, marketed as “Baby Gaga” and launched last week, is being tested with the full co-operation of The Icecreamists, the parlour marketing the dessert.
Viruses, including hepatitis, can be passed on through breast milk.
The company has said that the milk was screened in line with blood donor requirements before being pasteurized and churned together with vanilla pods and lemon zest. The dish comes in a martini glass and sells for 14 pounds ($22.50) each.

Stratford man tries to trade pot for sex
STRATFORD, Ont. - A 41-year-old Stratford, Ont., man was sentenced to 23 months in custody after pleading guilty to plying marijuana to young teenaged girls with the expectation they would have sex with him when they turned 16.
“What you were doing was preying upon vulnerable young women and engaging in a course of ongoing criminal conduct,” said Justice Kathryn McKerlie in sentencing John (Paul) Lacroix on Monday.
Lacroix, who has been held in custody for two months, recently pleaded guilty to charges of sexual interference, exposing himself, trafficking in marijuana, obstruction of justice and breaking bail conditions.
The jail time period includes time already spent in custody.
Reading from notes and at times sobbing, Lacroix made a lengthy statement from the prisoner’s box prior to his sentencing.

WOODSTOCK - The Oxford County Crown attorney's office says it will seek a dangerous offender designation for Craig Vannatter before he faces sentencing later this year.
The 36-year-old Tillsonburg resident was found guilty Tuesday for crimes that included abduction and forcible confinement of a five-year-old girl.
Individuals can be designated as dangerous offenders during sentencing if it is proven there's a high risk they will commit future violent or sexual offences. People designated as dangerous offenders are subject to longer -- or indeterminate -- prison sentences.
Vannatter has several previous convictions for sexual assault, all with young victims. Justice David Little also found Vannatter guilty of two breaches of probation, including violating a no-contact order with children under the age of 14.
Little said evidence provided by the mother of the five-year-old child rang true and described Vannatter's testimony that he walked into a women's washroom and found the young girl already there "pure fiction."
"The accused gave evidence. I did not believe him," Little said. "Such confinement and deprivation is without any lawful excuse. The accused knew what he was doing, got caught and fled and concocted his defense."
A ban is in place preventing the publication of any information that would identify the victim.

London man dead
A man is dead after an industrial accident Tuesday night at a south London plant.
Few details have been released, but reports say a man was pinned under a forklift at Central Transport, which operates out of 1030 Wilton Grove Rd. just after 11 p.m.
Other employees tried to lift the vehicle off the man but were unsuccessful, reports say.
A man in his 30s was rushed to hospital and pronounced dead there.
London police are investigating, as are federal labour officials.
Central Transport is a federally regulated trucking company because it regularly travels outside of provincial boundaries and hauls goods it does not own.

An internal police review into a 911 call that went unanswered for almost six hours after a London woman was brutally beaten continues.
Calling the administrative review “in-depth,” Const. Dennis Rivest said it was a lengthy process as the force’s professional standards branch looks at how the call came in, how it was classified and dispatched afterward.
“It’s bigger than looking at just this one incident,” he said.
A 45-year-old woman was brutally attacked in her unit at 370 Wonderland Rd. S. on Jan. 18.
An initial 911 call to police about loud bangs, made at 6:30 p.m., was logged as a “check welfare.”
Officers didn’t start driving to the building until 8 p.m., but were re-routed to a break-in in progress.
Police and paramedics didn’t arrive at the apartment building until about 11:20 p.m., when the woman’s roommate came home and found her on the floor.
Police have not changed the way they operate, said Rivest, noting the review is not complete.
There’s no time line for when the review will be done, he added.
Police haven’t laid charges in the attack, but said the investigation continues, he said.
“It’s an involved process,” he said, adding police are in contact with the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto.
