Two charged in illegal smokes seizure

Two Listowel residents face Excise Act charges after RCMP seized 67,000 contraband cigarettes.
Police say the accused were operating an in-home tobacco store where they sold unstamped tobacco that originated from the Six Nations Reserve near Brantford to select members of the community. Also seized were $4,000 in cash and a 2007 GMC truck allegedly used to transport the unstamped tobacco.

Man charged in child porn probe

A Courtland man faces several child pornography charges after a four-month OPP investigation.
Norfolk OPP, the child exploitation unit and the Western region’s forensic experts were involved in the investigation that led to the arrest Friday.
Police searched a Courtland home and seized three computers and a “large quantity of external computer media.”
Brian Mitchell, 39, is charged with possession, making and distributing child pornography as well as sexual assault and sexual exploitation.

Cabbie attacked

A London taxi driver was beaten unconscious by two men who wouldn’t pay their fare.
Police said the cabbie picked up two men near the corner of Dundas St. and Richmond St. at about 3:30 a.m.
One man tried to pay the fare with a debit card, but it was declined. The two men got out of the taxi and when the driver got out he was attacked, beaten and robbed of “a large quantity” of cash.
