A Toronto man who strangled his son to death in a London, Ont., hotel room and found not guilty by reason of insanity is running as an independent candidate in Huntsville, Ont.
David Carmichael says he's trying to raise public awareness about anti-depressants and the hold he says big pharmaceutical companies have on government.
Carmichael, 52, is taking his pitch for office to voters in Parry Sound-Muskoka, the riding held in the last Parliament by federal Industry Minister Tony Clement.

Bordello relocates to hotel
A high-end London escort agency on Commissioners Rd. E. has apparently moved shop.
The large sign displaying the house number where Fantasy World Escorts operates came down over the weekend, and the agency's website says operations have been moved to a south London hotel.
"This week we will be in a discreet hotel . . . and it will be business as usual," the agency's website said Monday.

Business owners angry over disruptive construction
Some downtown London businesses are fuming over “arrogant” construction contractors they say are blocking customer access in a project taking twice as long as planned.
The city says the contractors on a stretch of York St. near Richmond St. aren’t breaking any bylaws, and the work is a temporary inconvenience for a long-term benefit.
But business owners are still frustrated over blocked sidewalks and laneways affecting their bottom lines.

Amber alert issued
Police have issued an Amber Alert for a missing three-year-old girl from Sault Ste. Marie who is believed to have been abducted by her mother.
Leila Elizabeth May has blond hair and blue eyes and was last seen wearing a green sweatshirt, pink rain jacket, pink rain boots with rabbit faces, and Spiderman socks and underwear, Ontario Provincial Police said.
She is believed to be in with her mother, Kristi Ann Barsanti, 21, who police describe as standing 5-foot-2 .

“Less than 40% of young people voted in the last election — it’s embarrassing, it’s inexcusable,” Hunter said.
They sing, they chant, they party and they hold up signs vowing to vote in the May 2 federal election.
Hunter has planned the London event for Saturday in Victoria Park.

Heavy rain in forecast
Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for the London region at 5 a.m. Monday calling for as much as 40 mm of rain.
An intensifying low pressure system over the southern plains of the U.S. will track slowly towards the Great Lakes regions tonight, the advisory said.
Rain is expected to start in Southwestern Ontario this afternoon.
