Joe was $10,000

The outcome in London’s 2010 mayoral race was dramatically different than the 2006 contest for Joe Fontana, who surged to an upset win last fall over rival Anne Marie DeCicco-Best.
One detail, though, remained unchanged for Fontana: the ex-MP once again ended the campaign with a small deficit — spending about $10,000 more than he took in from donors, he says.
“Raising money for any campaign is probably the most challenging (part),” said Fontana, who estimates his successful campaign spent between $110,000 and $120,000.
He shrugged off the deficit’s significance, noting his campaign has already made up the $10,000.
Exact campaign figures are not yet public, but Fontana’s shortfall — indicated in paperwork requesting an extension on the campaign period’s deadline — is among the first intriguing details to trickle out.
Most campaign costs and donations must be made public at City Hall by March 25.
For those who, like Fontana, requested an extension, details regarding costs and donations in that extended period must be filed by September.
