Oxford OPP have upgraded charges against a woman charged in the death of an Ingersoll baby.
Originally charged with failing to provide the necessities of life and criminal negligence causing death, Melissa Garland, 40, is now charged with second-degree murder, police said.
Garland was caring for five-month-old Brookelyn Hopkins in August, 2010 when the child became unresponsive and was taken to the Alexandria Hospital in Ingersoll, police said.
Hopkins was transferred to the Children's Hospital in London where she died on Aug. 9, 2010.
